Abstract

Introduction: The need for equitable and comprehensive health care for women and children, established in the Federal Constitution of 1988 and with the institution of the Unified Health System, required a set of policies, programs and actions that responded to changes in the epidemiological situation, to the demands of the women's movement for the humanization of childbirth, the improvement of care and the reduction of high rates of morbidity and mortality from causes considered preventable. Methodology: This is research with a qualitative approach, of an exploratory and analytical nature, with a literature review and the application of a semi-structured interview, with a sample of seven residents. Simple random sampling was used. The data obtained was treated through content analysis and guided by the method of historical-dialectical materialism, inferences and interpretations were made from a historical and totality perspective. Results: The data produced allowed us to perceive the undeniable advances for health services in the Seridó Potiguar, in the quality and humanization of assistance and attention to users, as a result of the integrative actions developed in maternal and child health.
