Abstract

Introduction: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a highly persistent health problem in our society. It is considered a condition sensitive to Primary Care, so its proper attention in Primary Health Care prevents acute and chronic complications as well as hospitalizations. Insulin therapy plays an important role as an additional drug therapy for maintaining target glycemic control. Objective: To report the experience of creating an informative booklet about the management of regular and NPH insulins by insulin-dependent users with type 2 diabetes mellitus in primary care. Methodology: In order to develop the information booklet, an integrative literature review was carried out in the main databases and guidelines. Results: It presents the elaboration process of the informative booklet on the use/management of insulins and their preparation and administration, as an educational tool, adapting the technical-scientific language to a more accessible language. Conclusion: The report ends by pointing out the advances, so far, and the challenges in the implementation of the information booklet in Primary Health Care in a municipality in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte.
